Let me introduce myself!

I’m Emily Sontag, the surface designer behind Emily Sunday Designs, a Midcoast Maine–based studio rooted in a love of artistry and interiors. I create bold, sophisticated wallpaper, fabric and art intended to spark joy and inspire imagination in thoughtfully designed spaces.

My love for patterns and color has been a lifelong passion. Every piece I create begins as hand-drawn illustrations, which I then layer together digitally. This process allows me to bring a sense of artistry to the spaces and products my designs adorn.

I love to create bespoke custom wallpaper, collaborating closely with interior designers and homeowners to create one-of-a-kind wallcoverings tailored to specific projects, palettes, and spaces. My work blends expressive pattern, thoughtful color, and timeless style—crafted to elevate both residential and commercial interiors.

Experience/Education

My artistic journey began with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, where I explored a wide range of mediums and creative disciplines. This exploration ultimately led me to discover a profound love for fashion and textile design. After studying fashion design at FIT in New York City, I shifted my focus to textiles, which allowed me to blend my fascination with patterns and fabric

To deepen my craft, I pursued a Master of Fine Arts at the California College of the Arts, immersing myself in fiber arts with a particular emphasis on silk screening. This experience honed my skills and solidified my passion for surface design.

I spent more than a decade immersed in the fast-paced fashion industry before dedicating myself fully to independent work in Surface Pattern Design. During my career, I held various roles with boutique fashion brands, including Apparel and Accessories Buyer, Studio Manager, and Technical Designer.
