I’m Emily, a Surface Pattern Designer and Illustrator based in Coastal Maine.

I’m known for creating delicate surface designs, which are fresh, intricate, and that tell a story.

I’ve always been obsessed with pattern and color, and while all of my work begins as hand-drawn illustrations, my favorite aspect of designing is finding ways to combine those hand-drawn elements into surprising and pleasing repeating patterns.

My love of textiles, art history, and interior design has been with me since childhood. I was lucky enough to go to elementary school across the street from the Metropolitan Museum of Art and had the joy of spending many winter recesses wandering its exhibits. Maybe I read ‘The Mixed Up Files of Mrs.Basil E. Frankweiler’ too many times as a kid, but to this day running away to hide out at the Met is still my biggest dream.

I studied Fashion Design at FIT in New York City, before obtaining my MFA in Textile Design from the California College of the Arts. I spent many years working in the fast-paced world of the fashion industry before devoting myself completely to working independently in Surface Pattern Design.

When I’m not creating art in my studio, you can find me, my dogs, and my children, exploring the forests and beaches that surround our home in beautiful coastal Maine.
